Canada is racist

Robert S. Porter | Uncategorized | Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Here is a disgusting story. We have a family who is willing and able to work in the country and government does nothing but prevent this. First of all we need a proper program of recertification for professionals trained in other countries. Next, the government needs to stay out of the employment business.

He was offered a job at a Saskatoon manufacturing plant, but the government wouldn’t grant the company’s request to hire Oneto.

Unable to have his dentistry qualifications recognized here, Oneto said he found a dentist in Regina willing to sponsor him so he could work in his office. But the government again said no.

Even when 7 Eleven offered Oneto a job, the government refused to approve it, he said.

That is completely outrageous. But here is the kicker:

Citing privacy regulations, federal officials with Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Service Canada said they were unable to talk specifically about the couple’s case. But employers who want to hire foreign workers must first prove those jobs can’t be filled by Canadians.

I had no idea that our laws were so blatantly xenophobic and racist. This is the same thing that the Nurses’ associations are doing. They pretend to be looking out for people but in reality they are looking out for good, white jobs. I can’t believe that bullshit like this is exists.

Union schmunion

The Adam Smith Institute’s blog has been running Madsen Pirie’s Common Errors series and Thursday’s was great. I have stolen it verbatim:

58. “If people don’t like the policies of their trade union, student union or local council, they have only their own apathy to blame. They should become more active and change things.”

Why should they?  Why should people be punished for the pursuit of their lawful interests?  Why should they have a system inflicted on them which takes away their rights unless they become active in organizations which do not interest them?

Most people eligible to participate in trade unions or student unions, and most local residents, probably have spare time activities. There are innumerable hobbies and pursuits to engage an active mind or an energetic body. Students, for example, are often interested in sports, in entertainment, in socializing, and even, occasionally, in studying. These are normal pursuits. Those who feel impelled to engage in full-time politicking are the unusual ones. The rest of the group should not be penalized for being normal, and should not have things done in their name that they object to.

The same applies to trade union members or local government electors. They should not be required to engage in unpleasant and time-consuming pursuits in order to prevent things being done to them or in their name which they do not support. It is not apathy which keeps them away from this type or activity, it is normality, and they should neither be blamed for it, nor made to suffer because of it. Those who have tried to operate “within the system” know how tiresome, time-consuming and corrupt it can be, with political extremists relying on late-night meetings and turgid procedural points to drive away normal people.

There should be freedom of association, and no compulsory membership of organizations claiming representative powers, no forcing people into trade or student unions. Those who wish to join and participate can do so, and the others should not lose rights by declining to participate. Non-participation should not be blamed as ‘apathy,’ but respected as a free decision.

James, who has the sense of humor, ambition and talent to become one of the biggest crossover athlete-entertainers ever, looks like he’s having fun in the picture. So does Bundchen. That’s about the extent of it. The idea that the photo is reminiscent of “King Kong” and thus racist is almost beyond parody.

Lighten up, people.

Oh wait a minute: I better not say “Lighten up,” lest someone think I was making an insensitive racial joke there.

Ease up, people. [Sun-Times]

If you are not reading Radley Balko, you are a terrible human being. Balko is doing the single most important work in America right now. (Yes more important than Obama.)

Today he posted his latest column about professional licensing. To add to the mix the cartel responded and hilarity ensues.

The funniest take, however, is by commenter “Kieffer“:

Radley,

I normally agree with most of your posts and articles, but this time you’ve totally missed the mark. You just don’t get it on this issue.

I once saw a room where an unlicensed designer had placed a replica Tang Dynasty vase in a room CLEARLY designed in a late Yuan Dynasty motif. It was tragic.

Who will protect the children?!

I find that two-dimensional notes don’t suffice. I carry clay, shoe boxes, and other supplies with me. Then, when I have an important conversation, I record the conversation in a series of shoe-box dioramas. I can then fire the figurines in the portable kiln for a record that will last the centuries. The only problem I have encountered with this method is that some people are unable to accept that the nose isn’t going to be exactly correct when you have a figure that small.

What?

I was quite taken aback to hear Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz describe the majority of farmers in my district as the “tin-foil decoder-ring crowd” for supporting single-desk selling. Recognizing that one seller can command a higher price than multiple sellers doesn’t make us crazy — it makes us entrepreneurs, ones who care more about our bottom line than partisan politics. [Leader-Post, emphasis added]

That makes absolutely no sense. Someone becomes an entrepreneur by having the government do the selling for you? Huh? Am I missing something?

I’ll say it again it doesn’t matter if 100,000 people want the single government selling desk and 1 person doesn’t. It is still immoral to prevent that one person from selling his property how he sees fit.

The teens call their public orgies ponceo. On a typical Friday afternoon in the Chilean capital of Santiago, hundreds gather in a leafy urban park for a few hours of sexual experimentation. Surrounded by passing strollers, they trade partners multiple times—mostly engaging in anonymous rounds of oral sex. When the party is over, no contact information is exchanged. Same-gender interactions are commonplace, as the lines between hetero- and homosexuality are blurred, partly by the alcohol and drugs consumed, but also by shifting social mores held by Chilean youth, in contrast to their conservative parents. “Ponceo is about having fun,” says Natalia Fernandez, a 15-year-old with pink hair and a pierced chin. “This time I had seven partners.” [Newsweek]

The smack down on March Madness

Robert S. Porter | Uncategorized | Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

I have a well known dislike of March Madness and bracketology. Other people, however, defend it vigorously, saying that college basketball is superior to professional basketball. I’ve long thought this is nonsense. My economist source in Oklahoma backs me up.

I say “so called” sweet 16 because from a quality of ball point of view, college basketball is an abomination. There are only maybe 10-20 college players that are any good at all, tops. NCAA hoops quality is at an all time low, though crazy stuff like this Davidson run and my ex-employer George Mason’s run a couple years ago will keep the fanatics happy.

It is good to know that the nine Supreme Court justices will be giving their full attention to this interjection-dropping matter, which is clearly one of the most serious issues facing America. What the fuck would we do without them. [Language Log]

Comment of the Week: Sopranos Edition

Robert S. Porter | Uncategorized | Monday, March 17th, 2008
If you libertarian assholes ever have your way and privatize everything including the police, I shudder to think of the sorts of raids we’ll be facing. Watch a few episodes of the Sopranos, and you’ll get an idea, fucksticks. The next time Balko needs a cop, I hope his phone doesn’t work. [Link]

There’s more:

So drop the war on drugs, but don’t hype the “brutal cop” bullshit. SWAT teams are made up of dedicated people who put their lives on the line every fucking day. They don’t make the laws; they enforce them. So fuck you.

You know who put their lives on the line everyday? Roofers, so fuck you and your sense of entitlement.

You were raised by a cop? I’ll bet he ashamed of you, you fucking traitor.

Am I missing something? Western hog farmers are moving their hogs for finishing into the U.S. because it is too expensive to buy feed in Canada. Yet we have some free marketers saying we must get rid of the Canadian Wheat Board so we make more money. I’m no brain surgeon, but for us to be more profitable, they are saying we must take less for our grain!

Yes, Leo, you are missing something. I’d prefer that you be a brain surgeon than in charge of economic policy.

From Radley Balko come this tidbit:

“It’s like crack, only gambling is worse than crack because it’s mental,” the Queens native, who now works in a Minnesota call center, told The Associated Press. “It creeps up on you, the impulse. It’s a sickness.” [NY Daily News]

A friendly hello

Welcome readers of Small Dead Animals. Feel free to stop in and spew forth.

To follow along with the gong show see here.

Edit: One of my favorite parts of the thread was Kate’s response to the admittedly lame response of “first”: “[Please don’t do this. Every comment you post requires a page rebuild. Don’t waste server resources with off topic or nonsense comments. ED]”

If her budget is so tight that she cannot afford a few extra kilobytes then she really needs to do more airbrushing, either that or get more efficent software.

For my main deleted comment look under the fold. (more…)

Obama = Hitler

The ignorant Saskatchewanian farmer Kate has outdone herself.

Disgusting.

Now with comments:

I see there was some of the Obama Youth there!

Seig Heil…Obama!

If anyone tries to tell you that Canadian conservatism is enlightened, I offer this as rebuttal.

Edit:

So this is what Canadian conservatism is producing nowadays. This post is stunning in its ignorance. You can call me whatever names you want but this post and the ensuing comments are disgusting. “Seig Heil…Obama!” Unbelievable. -Robert S. Porter

Idiot. The Nazis and the Obamites produced the videos, not Canadian conservatives, nor would we ever. Ignorance? Another cliche “progressive” attack without foundation, meaning, actually, that we dare to use our brains rather than let progressiNazis tell us what to think.

Robert, your ilk, the self-labelled “progressives” are already guilty as sin of producing filth that defames conservatives as Nazis, racists, bigots and so on… WITHOUT PROOF.

The irrefutable, shocking proof about Obama is trickling out, and, as a progressive, you find these to be inconvenient truths, therefore you call us “ignorant” for daring to dig up the truth. Obama is on record in his books as promising to “side with Islam” and “feeling good hating his mother’s race”. It’s in his books, in black and white, no pun intended.

Ignorant “progressives” like yourself annoy the hell out of me. You would seek to slander us rather than opening your minds to the truth that some folks may be very bad despite not having pale faces and so on.

I mean, Osama bin Laden and Robert Mugabe are dark-skinned, and they’re monstrously evil, hateful, racist butchers in their beliefs and in the way they treat human beings. I suppose you would call me a “racist” or “ignorant” for saying this? Or maybe you’re unaware that these guys are horrendous monsters?

Hey, isn’t refusing to believe that it’s possible that non-white folks can be racists and bigots and have possibly dangerous hidden agendae… racism? If you wish to believe that Obama is necessarily good based on his skin color and his “progressivism” and political correctness, then that’s ignorance and much worse… then what does that make you, if not a racist?

…so we have no lessons to take from ignorant “progressives”. Take a hint, pal… don’t be ignorant. Think for yourself and seek the plain inconvenient truth that maybe Obama isn’t all that good, regardless of skin color.

Progressives, eh? I roll my eyes at their stupidity, ignorance and racism.

This is probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. If effectively speechless. As David Bernstein says, “While this book is actually a story of opposition to the Klan, I should note that in my view, even if the employee had reading a pro-Klan book it would be unconstitutional for him to face legal liability or punishment by the government merely because his choice of reading materials offended his coworkers.” The fact that the book is anti-KKK makes the whole story insane.

Here is a a short list of books that you probably don’t want to read at (the terribly named) Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis: Here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here.

In unrelated news “good-bye” is an “alteration of God be with you“. I’m never using that word again.
